Resveratrol is a plant polyphenol found naturally, particularly in the skins of red grapes and in red wine. It is gaining research attention for potential support of cellular resilience and healthy ageing.
A proposed mechanism is activation of sirtuins (e.g., SIRT1), which regulate cellular health and have been linked in studies to protection against oxidative stress, inflammation, and DNA damage. Resveratrol also has antioxidant properties.
In supplements, trans-resveratrol, the bioactive isomer, is commonly used.
